“HINDENBURG” THE HUMANITY! The story of the HINDENBURG is less famous than that of the RMS TITANIC – but just as powerful. The opening segment is an 8-minute feature presentation of the real airship's arrival at Lakehurst, New Jersey and her unbelievable explosion as it happened second by second in Full HD and in color. “HUMANITY” showcases an airy view of the construction process of the “HINDENBURG!” model on screen, while showing key historical aviation pioneers on screen and the beautiful interiors of the airship before it crashed. The entire construction process is seen in high-speed motion animation and explores a storyline of the science behind airship aviation and the challenges encountered historically in airship design. Little is said on the dark involvement of the Nazi regime or horrific concentration camps in World War II as the show focuses on the engineering element and scientific design evolution of airships. The show is presented by artist Gino Hart and plays out with black and white footage of the real airship accompanied by a light-hearted and fitting theme song by a female vocal artist, which leaves the audience inspired and happy. The show reminds us of the fallibility of man and how powerful and indestructible we think we are – moreover the importance of safe scientific design in our modern-day engineering efforts. The takeaway is that of our humanity towards each other and the preciousness of life – reminding us that we are all human regardless of status or background. THE "HIN" EXHIBITIONThe "HINDENBURG!" EXHIBITION takes up a floor/air space of *(6m x 4m). The art is suspended in midair by 6mm thick cable, featuring real World War II artifacts and replicas - on loan from a private museum collection in the Freestate.
The display was streamlined with QR CODES which digitally presents the various context information screens - thus the lack of ground floor cabinets with the usual standard printed context. *(These have been updated to include the physical printed context as some visitors remain technologically challenged and require a printed screen for context - but it is a welcome feature for modern tech users who are technologically advanced - requiring only one QR SCAN to have all access to all the context). The artwork is a controversial piece - which includes historically accurate Swastika emblems on 2 of the 4 tail fins *(which were greatly debated by her creators prior to appearing in public). They are censored depending on audience type and demographic - but is fully supported by the SAJBD *(South African Jewish Board of Deputies) as an educational artwork, and by law can be presented in that context in South Africa and other countries that allows its use. The framework was created and is owned by David Kessel from KESSELTEC KRAFT while the exterior art and physical display was created and is owned by Gino Hart. Due to the sensitivity of the artwork, the "HINDENBURG!" display refrains from appearing in public spaces such as shopping centres and solely appears in Museums and higher Educational Institutions where the possible inclusion of the emblem is less likely to cause unnecessary hysteria. |
